This morning while surfing the net I came across this quote: “Isn’t it funny how day by day, nothing changes, but when you look back, everything is different…” – C.S. Lewis. Makes you think doesn’t it?
This is exactly how I feel about some amazing new friends I met at Adventure Bootcamp Alberton. We spent time together early morning after early morning (as in 5:30am) getting to know each other, laughing and chatting all the way through some tough circuit work and eventually got together for coffee (okay okay, I’ll confess it was for ‘bookclub’ and wine 😉 ) and we have never looked back. It feels like I have known them for years…
It is exactly as the quote says, day by day it seemed the same (training at bootcamp and talking) and now that I look back everything is different, as I have grown into special friendships with great people without consciously thinking about it.
Mel & Blanche decided to give their Mom the best present, a family photo shoot voucher, for her birthday this year. I LOVED every moment of taking photos of their family! The boys were rowdy in the way only boys can be (every pose continued into a comedy act, lol) but it ended up contributing to creative photos as it brought out their personalities. Even the girls were keen to do some silly poses for the camera and so we had a lot of fun 😉
Can’t wait to see these lovely family photo shoot photos on your Mom’s walls!!!

As a full-time photographer I find it really important to allocate time every month to take photos of something completely different from my everyday work to keep me inspired…
So when a friend invited me along to Xumbugs off-road track to watch them ride their off-road bikes, I seized the opportunity to take marvelous photos 🙂 (typical photographer)
What I love about doing impromptu shoots is how much I learn from them. Normally, I would have full control over the time of day, the location and the “model” but not this time. It was in the middle of the day on a fenced-off racing track and the bikers, were wearing helmets and goggles… (I couldn’t really communicate with them) So I giggled to myself about murphy’s law and how it always seems to follow me around and made the best out of the conditions presented and look at the cool shots I managed to shoot!
Thanks Carly for inviting me and all of you for showing off your skills!
I am planning another shoot in the near future, somewhere a little quieter (where I can get closer to the track) where I can take some really cool early morning shots of bikes ramping right past me so close that I can feel the swoosh of air…

Family is something we all have in common. It’s a bond shared between a group of people. The only difference being some are related by blood and others by shared experiences…
Coming from a family of six (which over time has extended to 12, with brother-and sisters-in-law and their kids) I have a very strong sense of belonging to a beautiful unit. Some days when I am a little teary-eyed for some reason or another, the very thought of these special people, moments shared and laughter enjoyed, is enough to bring a smile to my face 😉
The reason I enjoy family photo shoots so much is because it’s all about getting to know the family dynamics and then, taking the family photos in such a way as to ‘showcase’ that special connection in the photos.
I met Liezel before on another occasion for a separate photo shoot and so on this day it was a pleasure getting to know her two (good-looking) sons and the special man in her life.
Looking forward to making albums with these photos and adding the a special letter Liezel will write for each of them specifically.

Every now and again the universe seems to magically align and you get handed an amazing opportunity on a silver platter, the catch being – a very short time limit… I got a call late last week from Coralie at The wedding design magazine (who loves my work) asking if I would advertise in their pretty wedding magazine and naturally I said yes!
Luckily for me I thrive under last-minute pressure and I know the owners of an amazing little wedding boutique – Blush Weddings – who sponsored the dress and a pretty cool model 🙂
Claire (the model), Iselle (the assistant) and I spent the day preparing and shooting these amazing images at Tswalu Grove Safari Lodge. The whole idea of the shoot was to try something new, by creating a very “soft” look with directing light onto the camera lens to create flare (which is the airy fairy white glow over the images) and I just LOVE the way they came out! I am definitely using this technique in my wedding photography as the brides get ready on their big day…
