Attention all moms with kids and cameras! Are you a paparazzi mom and proud of it? Would you like to learn how to use YOUR camera to take better photos of your kids? Well then my new photo course is for you! All you need is your camera and one Saturday afternoon. I will teach you all about composition, camera functions and ‘interactive posing’ and to top it all off, we will have a practical session afterwards where you take photos of my ‘models’ with me on hand to give advice. Sound awesome yet…?

If you are wondering if this course is for you, I have four easy questions:

Are you a mom with kids armed with your camera pretty much wherever you go?

Would you love to know how to use your specific camera to take better photos?(without getting too technical)

Would you like some inside info from a professional photographer about tips and tricks they have tried and tested to capture better photos kids?

If your answer was yes to any or all of the above, this course to teach you how to use your camera is definitely for you.  We are going to spend 3 hours together going through tips and tricks I have learnt over the past 6 years in photographing kids. And I am not just talking about boring old posed photos but capturing emotion, frowns and silly faces and your kids will think they are having the time of their life.  Thereafter we will also have hands-on shooting time with ‘models’ so that you can get some hands-on advice on how to improve your shot.  All you need to do is start thinking like a kid but take photos like a pro 😉

PS – This course can also be purchased as a voucher for the perfect mothersday gift.

Contact me for more information (Course limited to 10 moms):

swaziland salvation armyLet me just say Swaziland is a place of contrast.  Once you have crossed the border and driven right into Mbabane (which is the capital of Swaziland) you will drive past common retail stores like Clicks and restaurants like Spur.  But as you continue about 20-30km’s further you start venturing into rural Swaziland where people live in huts (often 2km’s apart or more) and there are no stores and the clinics are few and far between.

I was privileged to travel with a few wonderful volunteers and officers from the Salvation Army to learn more- and photograph their wonderful projects.  The first project we visited were the ONLY two clinics in Mbuluzi -supported by the Salvation Army- (and when I say clinics – keep in mind that they are smaller than your average townhouse and serviced by only two nurses)  These clinics serve to keep the community informed about their health and ensure the kids have a healthy future.   Looking at the photos of the clinics and the rural scene you can only begin to form an idea of travelling distances involved when making visits to the sick and elderly people.

Then there are the volunteers who work side by side with the nurses.  Basically they get assigned two – three clients whom they visit on a weekly basis.  They help out with cooking and cleaning and check up on the client’s health situation.  If the volunteer notices a decline in the clients health, they inform the nurses who in turn go and visit the clients. (Keep in mind that these volunteers receive no payment for this work – compassion and dedication really goes a long way)  The volunteer seen in the photos above (the lady in front of the house wearing a hat) has three clients.  One of which she visits three times a week (by foot), and she just so happens to live 3km’s away from the client.

The Salvation Army in Mbabane Swaziland has another project wherein they feed the elderly people of the community on a weekly bass.  The wise faces you see here were all smiles and gratitude for this wonderful initiative.  And now I can hear you asking but what about the little baby? As you can imagine the younger people are the breadwinners of the family so the little ones are often left in Grandma’s care.

All in all it was a humbling experience to see how much the people of the Salvation Army give with only a “warm fuzzy feeling” as reward…

arty wedding photographybeach wedding photographerI enjoyed every single moment of photographing Deidre and Phillip’s beach wedding.  It all started with a save the date magnet which could conveniently be kept on your fridge so that you “saved the date”  They were finally getting married (after 10 years of being together) and knowing D this was going to be the wedding of the century!  The date was set for 2010/10/10 which made everything just perfect…

They are such a unique and adventurous and they fittingly decided to have their wedding at sunrise at the breathtaking Zimbali lodge at 6:00 in the morning (no joke).  So, I woke up at 3 in the morning travelled to Zimbali Lodge to start taking photos on  this special wedding day while the bride was getting ready to marry her man (without power I may mention as we had a power outage) and the best part is the bride was on cloud 9 and didn’t even mind the power being down 🙂

Needless to say there was no “music” on the beach as planned just a bagpipe player and a close friend accompanying the hymn on her guitar.  Annndddd to top it all off the bride entered the beach on a beautiful sand-coloured mare…  and was walked down the aisle by her father and looked radiantly beautiful as she saw her man standing there waiting for her.  The smiles on the couple’s faces will be etched into my mind forever!  This beach wedding was absolutely perfect and they couldn’t have asked for anything more!

We had such a great time capturing everyone near and dear, starting with the entourage and moving along to family and friends right there on the beach. And even got some amazing photos of this special bride and groom sharing a few moments together.  This day was filled with so much love and laughter and they were truly blessed with such an amazing memory to cherish forever (And if that wasn’t enough the couple and I went to the beach the next morning and they got into the ocean for a trash the dress wedding photography session and memories to last a lifetime…)  It was truly magnificent (and don’t stress, we had them take off their rings before they got into the ocean as we just weren’t going to take that risk)

Deidre and Phil I just know that you will spend many more happy years together… All the best! Ri

newborn baby photo shoot pricesIt’s never been a secret that I adore babies, as simple as that!  I would love to have 4 kids one day (Yes I am from a big family if you were wondering) and it was a wonderful experience growing up in a “tribe” 🙂

Whenever my sister and I go shopping I have to make a conscious effort not to approach complete strangers to coo over their cute little babies.  My sister now spots them almost before I do and tells me to “just keep walking” ha ha.

With all this said you can imagine that I absolutely love doing newborn baby photo shoots.  They are so tiny and I find myself thinking that they are bundles of potential, they can become simply anything!

I take these newborn baby photos with love and care, to ensure that you have beautiful memories of this time when you were so tired you weren’t too sure what a good night’s rest felt like BUT you are almost the happiest you have ever been in your life.  It’s well and truly worth it…!
